The Idea

Desired Outcome:

To raise a minimum of $50,000 on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project.

Where:

Heading out of Yorktown, VA, I asked for donations while riding westward along the Transamerica Trail and Western Express Bicycle Routes toward San Francisco, CA.

Means of Communication and Modes of Transport:

Armed with modern communication devices, I rode my classic 1991 Schwinn Voyageur Touring Bike. Approximate weight of packs – 35 lbs.

Timing:

Wholly reliant on two 52 year old knees, I departed May 2nd with an expected end-of-the-road date of August 15th. Estimated total miles / miles per day – 3,800 / 40.

Why Now:

Before embarking on the next chapter of my career, I had the ability and the support of my family to dedicate my time and energy toward raising funds on behalf of this most worthy cause.

Compelled By:

Sharing building space for 18 years with the Ashland, VA U.S. Marine Corps Officer Recruiting Station, I have had the great fortune of meeting a number of young men and women as they have volunteered for and returned from service. Like so many others I have also seen firsthand how life altering injuries present extraordinary challenges and opportunities to those injured as well as their families.
