The Idea

Desired Outcome:

To continue raising funds toward my goal of $50,000 on behalf of the Wounded Warrior Project – without missing a beat serving the needs of my clients. This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart, and the Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit that seems to serve it well (see Charity Navigator rating here).

Where:

Heading out of Portland ME, I will ask for donations while riding westward toward San Diego, CA.

Means of Communication and Modes of Transport:

Armed with modern communication devices (Apple iPhone 6 and Dell XPS laptop), I will ride my classic 1991 Schwinn Voyageur Touring Bike. Approximate weight of packs – 17 lbs. (nearly half as much as last time – I am a fast learner).

Timing:

Wholly reliant on two 57-year-old knees, I will depart August 7 with an expected end-of-the-road date of October 8. Estimated total miles / miles per day – 3,300 / 65.

Why Now:

It was just too much fun last time and the itch simply won’t go away.

Compelled By:

The desire to give back - like last time, sharing building space for 18 years with the Ashland, VA U.S. Marine Corps Officer Recruiting Station, I have had the great fortune of meeting a number of young men and women as they have volunteered for and returned from service. Like so many others I have also seen firsthand how life-altering injuries present extraordinary challenges and opportunities to those injured as well as their families.

And, by the physical challenge…
